Our Story
Lulu’s Cakerie was founded by Pauline in 2018, in Woodbridge, VA. Shortly after her daughter’s first birthday, she developed an interest in baking and cake decorating. That interest grew as she made it her mission to bake all of the future birthday cakes in her family. Soon after baking a birthday cake for a friend, she began to receive orders from other members of her community and Lulu’s Cakerie was established.
“Over the years, my love for creating happy memories has really fueled my passion for designing cakes. It gives me such joy to see clients light up when they see and taste their cakes. I often say that I am in the business of creating happy memories. I love all the little details and carefully plan out each order to go perfectly with the occasion.”

Many changes have taken place since the opening of Lulu’s Cakerie. We are now based in Charlotte, NC and have undergone a huge transformation! Our menu has expanded to include cake treats and gift boxes (you now have more excuses to eat cake!) that can be customized in a variety of ways. We’ve also rebranded and reorganized. However, one thing that remains constant is our goal to provide excellent customer service and sweet memories while bringing your cake vision to life.
Meet Pauline
Lulu’s Cakerie began on a whim and quickly snowballed into something much more!
At the beginning of 2018, I turned to my husband and told him that I wanted to begin designing cakes. I wanted to be the mommy who baked all of her children’s cakes. He was supportive and I believe I channeled the confidence he had in me to start designing cakes for others.
Creating with my hands has always come easy to me, so I approached this just as I would any other project: with an excessive amount of research and hands-on activity. I began a long process of trial and error, YouTube binging, and recipe testing which led to the creation of my first cake a few weeks later. It’s safe to say that once I got started, I realized that this was the creative outlet I never knew I needed.
Cake designing slowly began to take up a lot of time as I pushed to better my craft, but through it all, my husband was patient and encouraging. I’m sure being the lead taste tester has a lot to do with it! My husband may not know it, but his unwavering support and very necessary critique has played a key role in where Lulu’s Cakerie is today.
After relocating to Charlotte, NC in late 2018, I took a break from Lulu’s Cakerie to handle several life changes. During this break, I continued to practice, test recipes, and learn. I wasn’t quite sure if I would be able to re-launch and grow my business in a new city, but in November of 2020, Lulu’s Cakerie was re-launched and here we are today. In my free time, I can be found catching up on a TV series, spending time with my family or imagining ways to re-decorate my house. I love to laugh, count my blessings and find the silver lining in everything.
